Description:
Left Meriden for sale by Totnes based dealership Brian Trott. Number GG604** It is a 5 speed gearbox, first registered 26/02/1973. At that time the bike was a 650 with 2LS front brake. Its first change of owner brought it to Plymouth (date unclear). Eventually it was "got at" by well known and highly respected Plymouth dealer and tuner, the late Terry Hobbs. It was fitted with a Triumph 750 head, barrel & pistons (12:1 I think) and good fast road cams. It also was fitted with a disc brake. At some time it was then "Americanised" with US tank and high rise bars. It was also painted Black. In 1993 the last registered owner bought it and took it off the road in about 2001 - 02 and stored it, outside, under a mattress. In a sorry state it was bought in 2007 by a local bike shop who left it as a "drekly" job. See the last photo.
I bought it and carried out a ground up restoration as my long term keeper. It was reunited with its original petrol tank and sprayed the correct Tiger Gold & Cold White. The frame has been powder coated. The wheels were rebuilt with stainless rims and spokes and the front disc replaced with a lightweight disc and racing alloy caliper. It has a Hyde fork brace, electronic ignition and transistorised charging system. Almost every nut, bolt and washer is stainless steel and lots of new chrome with the alloy highly polished.
All the paperwork is to hand and correct and I do have some history including some old MoTs and tax discs.
I am sorry to let this go. If I had room I would keep it and use it as intended but health forces me to sell it. To be honest, if it doesn't sell I won't beat myself up and my widow can sell it after it follows my cortege to the funeral. I am happy to consider offers or even P/X, if you don't ask you won't know.
Collection from Cornwall PL17 8**. Please feel free to ask any questions and I positively encourage viewing. I may even offer you a cup of tea. Don't forget these bikes are shooting up in value and it will never be cheaper than it is now!
I will even throw in a tube of Solvol, you'll need it!
