I'm hoping to rehome someone's much loved dachshund when their circumstances no longer allow them to keep it. My vet and neighbours have agreed to provide references about my suitability as a dog owner to anyone seeking to rehome their dachshund with me. I'd be pleased to stay in touch with the original owner (who'd be welcome to visit at intervals after their dog had settled with me).

I'm looking for a kind, nice-natured, house-trained, healthy, energetic dachshund preferably aged less than 4. I'd expect my dog to bark warnings (eg "there's someone at the DOOR, come and see!") but my neighbours wouldn't put up with a dog that barked for no reason.

Ideally I'd like a long-haired or smooth haired standard spayed bitch or neutered dog but in reality I'm flexible. If there's a mini dachshund or a "tweenie" that needs a home, I'd love to hear about it. Similarly I'd love to hear about any homeless dachshunds that aren't "fixed".

I'm dachshund experienced. I live in a large village close to the fields and the park; my dog would be walked twice a day. I quite often walk miles. I'm almost fully retired so the dog would have plenty of company. I own my home and it has a garden.

I'm seeking a dog by donation and would pay a small sum to the charity of the owner's choice.
