If the answer is yes, then Action on Elder Abuse currently have opportunities available to you!

We are seeking Elder Abuse Outreach support volunteers to support clients in their own home or a care/community setting who have experienced elder abuse. It aims to provide assistance to such individuals in their recovery from such abuse.

The Elder Abuse Recovery Service (Specialist Volunteer and Befriending Service) enables an individual to begin the recovery from abuse. Once support has been established, face-to-face visits will take place between you as the volunteer and the client. You will build rapport with the client and will be matched based on shared common interests.

We are seeking volunteers who have a connection to East Sussex (working, living or studying in the area) more specifically Brighton and Hove initially.

As an Outreach Support volunteer, you will assist the client with various activities, some of which could include: advocating on their behalf, attending local arranged events such as coffee mornings, and other activities. It aims to reduce isolation and encourage reintegration back into their community.

You would be support a client for a period of up to 12 months.

As a volunteer we ask that you:

Possess good communication skills

Have a willingness to learn new skills and undertake training in accordance with the role

Are empathetic and a good listener

Have an understanding of the issues that surround elder abuse

Have the ability to maintain confidentiality

Have a commitment to Action on Elder Abuse and our ethos

We ask for a minimum of 4 hours per week and a minimum commitment of 6 months for the role.
