Description:

We are looking for Passenger Assistants for the area of the London Borough of Ealing, preferably the candidate should live in or close to the Borough due to the hours for this role.
The role of the Passenger Assistant is to support vulnerable pupils who need supervision or assistance in order to travel safely. Team work is essential and Passenger Assistants will be expected to work closely with the driver of any vehicle they are allocated to and ensure the safety of their passengers.
The role involves a degree of manual handling, manipulation and clamping of wheelchairs, emergency first aid and evacuation of a vehicle in an emergency.
The hours are 3 -5 hours per day depending on the route, starting from the morning school run and then the afternoon school run. The hours of work are expected to be between 7 - 9 am and 3 - 5 pm.
The Main Duties include:
1. Responsibility for the care, comfort and safety of passengers at all times, between their homes and the establishments they attend, ensuring their safe arrival and handover to a responsible person where appropriate.
2. Responsibility for effective daily communication with parents/carers and establishments concerning passenger behaviour and medical needs.
3. To report all issues including those surrounding Health & Safety, Child Protection, medical problems and time keeping to their Line Manager.
4. To assist passengers, as required, into and out of the vehicles; including assisting staff at establishments in collecting and delivering passengers to and from premises.
5. To ensure that passengers are wearing seatbelts / harnesses, where required. To secure wheelchair users safely in the vehicle using appropriate restraint systems.
6. To be responsible for the supervision of passengers and ensure that their behaviour is acceptable and in accordance with required procedures.
7. Follow and apply guidance given during training, including management and handling instances of epilepsy, accidents, incidents and other health and safety procedures.
8. To co-operate in any investigation and help to resolve any difficulties experienced by the passengers during the journey.
9. To be responsible for any medication to be transported on the vehicle and to handover the medication to a responsible person at either end of the journey.
10. To be aware of and comply with travel plans relevant to passengers on their journey.
Please note, you may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the job.
It is desirable (but not essential) if the candidate has experience of passenger assistance or escorting duties.
Full training is provided and attendance at training is mandatory. Term time contracted staff are not permitted to take holidays during school term time.
You must have the legal authority to work in the UK. Non-EU nationals must have the relevant approval to work in the UK from the UK Border Agency.
