The village is only a few kilometers from the Greek border, it has not been officially declared an architectural reserve, but with the preserved Bubar stone houses and the oldest church in the Rhodopes, it can rightly be called a reserve. The locals number 110 people and mainly sow tobacco and sesame. They are proud of their 200-year-old church "St. St. Constantine and Elena" and the only Mediterranean evergreen tree in Bulgaria of the species Arbutus andrachne, better known among the locals as Spring kumarka (or Strawberry tree). This extraordinary tree changes the color of its bark several times a year and grows undisturbed right in front of the town hall of Dolno Lukovo.

The village of Dolno Lukovo is also close to Turkey, only 30 km away, which makes it ideal for tourism because it is close to two borders. Read more
