Exracehorse who was a seaside donkey in a previous life. 16.3hh 6 year old gelding in Kidwelly

16.3hh chestnut gelding
6 years old
Looking for low level, hacking home.
Located in West Wales.
Does have arthritis in both hocks which have been extensively treated.
Does sometimes windsuck but this has improved dramatically since addressing hocks.
If you've got this far and can see the bigger picture; read on!!!
Labelled 'The worst Racehorse in the world', he ran 3 times and either came last or was pulled up; presumably because the jockey had either lost sight of the rest of the field or he was being lapped! In fact, it was said that he would have got around the course quicker had the jockey given him a piggyback.
He is, ultimately a truly wonderful horse. He is kind, incredibly genuine, stoic and gentle. He's intelligent and really does try.
I would say he would suit a competent novice. Someone with no huge expectations. Someone who wants to explore the countryside with their best friend, taking in the sights, stopping at a local pub for lunch or going hunting; stood quietly at the meet whilst you stuff your face with sausage rolls and port, or as a perfect 'mums horse' to ride out with the kids.
He hacks alone and in company and his character doesn't alter. He's excellent in traffic seen here (country traffic). He's sensible, slow, steady and just easy. He's not spooky. He is the absolute definition of 'more woah than go'. He's never strong or silly. If he ever 'hot up' I'd die of shock. I wouldn't say he's lazy he just doesn't, ever feel any sense of urgency! I'm 99% certain he was a seaside donkey in a previous life.
He loads and travels amazingly, is perfect to clip and shoe. He turns out on his own or with company. He's happy to stay in the stable on his own; he just, genuinely doesn't care.
Hes had about a year and a half in total of retraining. He's done one dressage test with me and scored just over 70% (prior to his diagnosis). He hasn't done any jumping but I really can't see this being an issue. He's done lots of pole work.
So you can either rule him out due to his medical history or you can look at it from another angle; better the devil you know. This horse has had EVERYTHING thrown at him in order to make sure he is 100% happy and healthy before going on to start a new career. All of this has been addressed fully, and timely to give him the best possible future. The alternative could be to buy something without being x rayed and vetted only to discover similar problems down the line. During the diagnosis process he also had his feet and spine x rayed which were all described as 'unremarkable'
His arthritis is not the reason why I am selling. My other ROR has also diagnosed with hock arthritis and he will be my main competition horse. I'm really only selling him because 'we want different things', 'it's not him, it's me'!!! Having bought something laid back as a confidence giver, I have realised I need something a little more forward
He is up to date with physio, farrier, osteopath, teeth, vaccinations and worm count.
He will not be leaving here with any tack, rugs etc.
He is not for loan, LWVTB or any kind of payment plan.
I can suggest transport locally
Available to the very best of homes. Please don't insult me with stupid offers. I made the decision to address his issues and make sure he's comfortable before finding him a new home at a huge loss and have spent double figures getting him to where he is now'
