Pair of Vintage Retro 1968 to 1969 Carlton Ware Pottery Buffet Serving Trays or Platters Skye Range Roman Green. Very Good Used Condition Collectable Tableware.
The iconic Carlton Ware Skye Range was produced between 1968 and 1969 and, as was common during that era, took its inspiration from the space race. The texture on the bottom of the rectangular buffet serving tray was influenced by the lunar rover criss-crossing the moon's surface, but doesn't go overboard with obvious design connections to rockets, the night sky etc., which other manufacturers tended to during this period.
The post modernistic styling of this range is now considered to be a cool collectable. It is becoming increasingly difficult to track down such pieces, so the opportunity to own an identical pair of these design classics is certainly cause for serious consideration.
These rectangular serving trays are sometimes also called platters. They are very useful, practical items - in the Carlton Ware Roman Green colour.
This is a private sale from a pet and smoke free home. These items have been in my family since they were purchased new in the 1960's. The serving trays are only being sold as I need more room.
The manufacturer's marks on the underside of each piece being offered for sale here state: Carlton Ware Made in England Trade Mark, and the shape number: 2813.
These manufacturer's marks were used between 1925 and 1970.
The shape numbers for the Skye Range run from 2800 to 2900 and indicate that such pieces were produced between 1968 and 1969.
Both of these buffet trays are in very good used vintage condition. They have no chips or cracks or even hairline fractures. There are some small areas of uneven glaze across the trays - which originate from the manufacturing process and are quite common on this type and age of Carlton Ware pottery; these variations in the thickness and application of the glaze are not defects.
Please study the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the condition of these items.
The size of each tray is approximately 3 cm high x 38.5 cm long x 13 cm wide.
Given pottery is fragile I would prefer the buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. However, if essential I would reluctantly be willing to post the platters to a location within the United Kingdom, at the buyer's own risk, for an additional £16.50. (They are heavy when put together.) In this situation I would make very reasonable effort to pack them carefully so as to help ensure their safety. Regret no returns accepted. Thank you.
