The Old Balloon Seller is a beautiful rare Royal Doulton figurine from the Miniature Street Vendor series.
The original Old Balloon Seller is one of the most famous Royal Doulton figurines ever - it was in production for some eight decades. The Old Balloon Seller is the quintessential street vendor and an icon of the Royal Doulton heritage in figurines, first designed by Leslie Harradine in 1929. This dignified, mature lady is gracefully attired, her white and green edged skirt set off by the black-with-green tassels of the coat over her shoulders. During the 19th century street vendors were a common sight in towns and cities. With their bright and cheerful wares, balloons, flowers and hundreds of other items, their friendly cries for trade made a very colorful spectacle. Leslie Harradine created the first street vendor figure in 1929, The Old Balloon Seller, and the series of colorful characters has been a favourite among collectors ever since.
