You are looking at an exquisite and graceful Antique, wooden, eight-piece carvery and cutlery set from India. Has been a proud decorative piece in our house for many years but now it needs a new home.

Originally from India, crafted sometime between the late 1800's and early 1900's. We base this date on similar carving and cutlery sets that we have found so please take this into account. The wooden sheaf or main body that houses the knives and forks of the carving set is made from Indian Rosewood or Noble wood as well as the handles of all of the knives and forks. Into wood of the main body sheaf is hand carved a gorgeous and very intricate leaf and branch patter.

The wooden sheaf or main body that houses the knives and forks of the carving set is made from Indian Rosewood or Noble wood. This wooden body acts as a sheaf for three cutlery knifes and 3 cutlery forks (which slide into the top of the wooden body) and a carving knife and carving fork that are sheaved at the bottom.

Into wooden body is hand carved a gorgeous and very intricate leaf and branch patter. The main body sheaf also has brass adornments which contrasts nicely against the Indian Rosewood. The stand legs are made of brass as well as the edges of the bottoms sheaves for the carving knife and fork. There is also a brass clasp that locks the carving knife and fork into place when they slide into the sheath. Pressing down on this clasp releases them.

All of the forks and knives are made with a steel blade with the word "India" stamped / engraved into each of them. The steel blade is attached to an Indian Rosewood handle that is hand carved with a similar decorative motif as the main sheaf body. The all of the forks and knifes are decorated with brass that joins the Rosewood handle to the steel blade.

The physical condition of the set is very good, especially when considering the age. The main wooden body sheaf does however have a couple of scratches and dents from its long life. The scratches I am sure could be made less noticeable. From looking at the knives and forks, it is clear that this set was designed to be practical, and not just a decoration so if the knives were sharpened, this carving and cutlery set could be put back to practical use though.

This is a beautiful and ornate set which we will be sad to see go.
