Knife from Zulu Wars found in Africa in Todmorden

This was purchased in an antique shop and apparently was acquired off somebody researching the African Zulu wars , whilst out there he dug it up as detector find . It sure looks like it was buried for 100 years but in dry conditions .

It is an interesting piece with steel blade and a crossguard made of a couple of thin copper pieces that are loose , there was probably something between them originally but this has perished and gone , the wood handle is very dry and cracked and some pieces missing , it has large brass studs and nuts holding it to the blade tang .

There is a possibility that this was made out in Africa by the regimental blacksmith , the issued weapons were the long bayonet to be fixed to the rifle , very cumbersome in close combat and difficult to use at close quarters so soldiers would like something unofficial in their belt ready at hand that could save their life in a Zulu attack .

It displays well as you can see in the pics and would look great in a knife collection or alongside the right period rifle , somewhat a unique piece of history that could have seen some real action , what a conversation piece, wish it could talk itself . I can include Royal Mail recorded insured post . or if you want to collect I`ll knock the postage and off the price
