Smart Fortwo Pulse

6-Speed Automatic (& Semi-Automatic)

Blue & Silver ~ 599cc

This is a purely domestic sale from home. I'm saving 90mins a day not having to commute to work whilst working from home during the pandemic, so I'm able to take time to write this description.

If you're mildly interested, then please read through the following and try to soak it in before thinking to get in touch, just so not to waste anyone's time with enquiries that are already answered within. Asking me how many owners, or if it has MoT, or what condition it's in, when it's all written out below, will not serve you in good stead.

Reason for Sale

The Smart was bought brand new for a grandfather who had lost his field of vision in one eye, which was the sole reason for LHD import. It's floated around the family a little as a spare back-up car, but hasn't been used for nearly 5 years, and has sat covered at the back of the garage. We've had a shuffle around, and brought it out, thinking it's a shame that it's not used enough. With a sale in mind, we've taken it for a fresh MoT, and re-insured it.

If there's no serious buyer interest, we're genuinely content to keep it and will use it abroad when Europe re-opens.

Condition

It's free of stone-chip marks, no dents, and no noticeable scratches. It hasn't been dressed up with silicone or dolled up for sale. It's as good as it looks in the photographs, and chiefly because it's been easy size-wise to garage for most of its life. It's as immaculate on the inside, and throughout, showing no noticeable wear or otherwise.

I'm familiar with Smart Fortwos in general and know their aging flaws; iffy gear selectors, saggy door pockets, faded dash-tops, faded rear spoilers, opaque headlamps, torn seats, scuffed interior panels ~ This is NOT that car, and I guarantee that it's going to be the best 1st generation Fortwo that you'll ever see; worthy of any showroom.

Maintenance History

It has only been serviced by Mercedes, though at such low mileage, there has been very little, and we haven't saved anything through the last house move. Other than a service & oil change etc, I can only think of a new rear tyre (puncture), a new windscreen (pebble), a rear wiper blade and a new electric window cable clasp. That's it for the last decade. It has brand new good-quality battery, which has had virtually no use.

Mechanics

Engine, gearbox, running gear, suspension, brakes, handbrake, wheels & tyres, everything you could think of, and with it being dry stored & well maintained ~ are discernibly all in very good order. One of the front wheels is out of balance, which is felt at 55mph, a £10 fix, and only self-isolating has stopped us getting that sorted, otherwise it drives straight & true and wants for nothing, and maintenance-wise ~ nothing is due. It has always started first time on the key, and is nippy, safe & sturdy on the road.

Equipment

Full panoramic tinted-glass roof, interior sunroof sunshade panel, central locking & immobiliser, power steering, driving lights, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, hidden storage, rear wiper, heated rear screen. Both remote keys are present and the V5 in our name.

Comments

Everything works as it should - no unmentioned broken mirror etc, ~ and everything is present, no missing parcel shelf etc. It has the original Smart stereo radio/cassette, which although cute and functioning well, might be up for an update to a modern media player.

I've recently moved it over into my husband's name so he could use up some spare insurance NCB before it became lost to the 2-year time-out rule, and principally to be legal to take it for MoT, though it is insurance that will soon be swapped over to a summer classic car ~ all meaning that it now shows two owners.

To be clear, it has 12 months MoT, and it's also taxed. The insurance was only £165 for the year fully comp, and it's super-cheap to run, and maybe worth a mention that it went straight through the MoT without a single advisory.

We had a good offer from an acquaintance who wanted to tow it behind a motorhome for a long season in Europe this summer, chiefly because it's small, cheap & LHD, which thanks to the pandemic isn't now going to happen and so they've dropped out whilst also being cautious about expenditure right now. It would seem that such similar use would be perfect future for it. I would say to buy it while you can, because I'm not sure that too many as good as this come onto the market.

Payment & Collection

Considering the low miles & its pristine condition, let it be said that as a family, we are not currently interested in a lower price. Also worth a mention that given the current pandemic, we'd request that the transaction will progress in a considerate manner, to include payment & collection, and with the pandemic in mind, bank transfer is preferred. If you need to pay by credit card through PayPal or similar, then you'll have to add on £58 to cover the 2.9% charges.

With prior arrangement, and with the current travel restrictions in mind, we are content to store it for a short while after completion, if required.
