BMW 840 CI AUTOMATIC

INTRODUCTION:

The E31 is the first generation of the 8 Series, which was produced from 1989 to 1999. The engines available consisted of V8 and V12 engines.
Design of the 8 Series began in 1984, with the final design phase and production development starting in 1986. The 8 Series debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in early September 1989. The 8 Series was designed to move beyond the market of the original 6 Series. The 8 Series had substantially improved performance, as well as a far higher purchase price. The 8 Series offered the first V-12 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox on a road car. It was the first car to feature CAN busa form of multiplex wiring for cars that is now an industry standard. It was also one of the first vehicles to be fitted with an electronic drive-by-wire throttle. The 8 Series was one of BMW's first cars, together with the Z1, to use a multi-link rear axle

SERVICE HISTORY:

This vehicle has been very well maintained mechanically, boasting no fewer than 27 stamps in total predominantly by BMW main dealers and well respected specialists. The original service book is also accompanied by a plethora of invoices/receipts displaying a fantastic level of care that has been bestowed upon this car mechanically.

In January and February of this year alone and less than 1000 miles ago it was treated to the following:

Exterior condition:

The exterior condition of this car is very presentable overall, it is worth noting that there are the odd car parking dink (not visible in the photographs as they are approx 2/3mm and have not damaged/broken the paintwork) . The front bumper has been repainted for stone chips at some point in the past and is ever so slightly off colour (to bonnet edge). There is no rust inside any of the 4 wheelarches normally associated with the model. Slight corrosion to front bonnet edge. Please note I like to give very frank, honest description's of my cars and point everything out warts and all so please do not let this put you off this very genuine, presentable car overall. Happy to send further pictures/videos to prospective buyers to confirm overall condition. Also please bear in mind this is now a 22 year old vehicle.

INTERIOR CONDITION:

Lovely parchment soft nappa leather interior. Although very nice and solid overall drivers seat is showing some signs of wear on bolsters (pictured) all the internal electrics function as they should. Half of the volume button missing from the fm/am head unit . No faults.

MECHANICAL CONDITION/TEST DRIVE:

We collected this vehicle in central Scotland and then drove it some 250 miles home so we can confirm quite confidently that it really does drive without fault!! Looking at the level of expense invested in this car earlier in the year this should be no suprise, gearbox changes super smooth and the engine purred along at a steady 1900 RPM all the way home, the whole trip completed on £40 of fuel with some left to spare!
