Baby Lord Derbyan parakeet in Glasgow

Gorgeous 6month old lord derbyan parakeet.

This is Griffin, or Griff as we like to call him. I've had Griff for about 3 months now and things are not working out with him and my other birds unfortunately so looking for a suitable home for him. He's semi tame and will take food and toys from hands although he's still hand shy.

He LOVES toys and you will need to be able to provide him lots of enrichment. He makes very sweet lovely noises when he's happy. Like all parrots, when he's bored he can be loud. When he's occupied with fun things to do you genuinely wouldn't even know he's there!

He is a very intelligent species and they can learn a huge vocabulary with enough time and training. They are a dimorphic species and although I refer to Griff as a male, his (or her!) sex is unknown for a few more months. If he is male his beak will turn sunset orange. His beautiful colours and markings will become more striking in the months to come as he grows.

We've started clicker training and he will happily do anything for a piece of walnut! He's target trained and this can be used to encourage him back into his cage. This would need to be continued to build up a relationship of trust with him. He now goes happily back into his cage whenever he is hungry.

He is a great eater and is keen to try most fruit and veggies. I string these up in his cage and make games for him with food which he enjoys. He is on a good quality seed mix at the moment as he is a growing baby although in the future this should ideally be switched to a lower fat pellet diet.

I'm selling him as my conure does not like him and will attack him when she can. He generally doesn't react despite being much bigger than her. Hes very curious towards my other birds and I think he would get along well with another bird companion who is more welcoming than my conure!

The price is for Griff. His cage, perches, sack of food and toys for can be negotiated if preferred.

I just want him to go to a good home with someone who can carry on training and getting the best from him. If you think you'd be a good match for gorgeous Griff we'd love to hear from you. Willing to negotiate the price for the right person.
