Young Silkie (Presumed Cockerel) in Portland

We haven't heard a crow or done a blood test, but we've never had a young silkie look and act so much like a cockerel!

He's been noticeably bigger than his siblings since day one, and his comb looks identical to his dad's at that age, not to mention the impressive feathering he's grown! If he follows in the footsteps of our cockerel, he is sure to be incredibly sweet and protective.

He was hatched in May of 2024 by one of our hens. He hatched with a solid colour but has recently developed greyish patches on his back.

He is currently socialised with silkies ranging from two months to two years. We'd love for him to finish growing up in his own flock! Read more
