Childcare and Early Years Educator in Barking and Dagenham



The Level 2 quali¬cation is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children's settings including early years and social care.

It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Children and Young People's Apprenticeship.

Who is it suitable for? Anyone who wants to work, or has just started to work in the children and young people's workforce.

What are the entry requirements? You should be at least 16 years old.

How many credits are required to complete it? The Certi¬cate requires 35 credits.

How is it assessed? It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by us.

Do you need to be working to take the qualification? Yes, you will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

All learners who achieve an Early Years Educator qualification will need GCSE English and maths A*-C to count in the ratios at level 3 in childcare settings. While there is no requirement for learners to have achieved GCSE English and maths upon commencement or completion of a standalone Early Years Educator qualification.

Do you need to have access to practical placement?
Placements are required for achievement of this qualification. A minimum of 350 placement hours is required. During placement, learners will need support from a professional within the real work environment who will be required to complete professional development records.

How long does it take to complete? Level 3 Diploma for the Children's Workforce (Early Years Educator) qualification will take 1-2 years to complete depending on experience.

What related qualifications can you progress to? Learners can progress to the Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner or other higher level early years qualifications.

Which type of job roles can you apply for on completion?
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will gain their license to practice and it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.
