Are you wanting an intense musical learning experience and a challenge?

Saltdean Music Lessons is presenting an 8-week JAZZ HARMONY COURSE, online via Zoom, for the months of February and March 2021 (happening either Friday evenings, 7-9pm, or Sunday afternoons, 4-6pm). It costs £80, or £70 for over 65's, students, unemployed, etc.

We'll be taking a look at:

* All types of triads and chords
* 7th chords, further extensions, and alterations
* Jazz Chord Notation
* Keys and Cadences
* Standard progressions, eg. 12 bar blues
* Analysing jazz classics harmonically
* Putting everything into practise in your own improvisations and solos

You'll need:

* A good, reliable internet connection, preferably using an ethernet cable
rather than WIFI, with speakers and a microphone
* A registered Zoom account (for privacy)
* A piano, digital piano, keyboard or USB/MIDI keyboard controller of at least
2 octaves to find, play and hear chords
* You will also need some basic music reading skills, eg. note names, sharps
and flats and clefs (+- Grade 1 music theory level)
* Some manuscript paper (downloadable for free)
* Pencils, a sharpener and an eraser

With a subject like JAZZ HARMONY, you're NEVER going to stop learning and it becomes a lifetime study and passion. To cram all the basics into 8 weeks is rather intensive, so it will require excellent concentration, tons of hard work and practise, and some free time to experiment, play and familiarise yourself with the sounds and progressions. Each session will end with a Q & A section, where I will answer any questions you may have. There will also be a theory worksheet to complete each week - I won't be policing homework - - but you will need to actually do the work in order to understand each section fully. The course will end with two practical sections, where we'll put everything that we've studied into practise, using your main solo instruments.
