The British Lung Foundation (BLF) has over 240 support groups nationwide. These groups are called Breathe Easy and are run by volunteers with active support from the BLF. Through monthly meetings, Breathe Easy groups provide people with an opportunity to make new friends and to learn more about living with a lung condition. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are willing to become ambassadors for BLF and Breathe Easy. You will be assisting us in delivering an excellent service by providing support, advice and guidance for people living with a long term lung condition. Through your role you will help us to educate and inspire people to manage their lung condition and to improve quality of life both mentally and physically. Each group has an assigned Group Support Officer who will support you to: Attend training, networking and information events. Communicate with your group about BLF's campaigning and lobbying. Cascade information from BLF to group members via e-mail and meetings. Help to co-ordinate group meetings. Book speakers - liaise with organisations and source relevant speakers. Organise venues - for meetings and for social events. Ensure the financial regulations are understood and provide support where applicable. Volunteers need to be computer literate and enthusiastic team players willing to adapt to the variety of tasks given. Over 18's. Good interpersonal skills, particularly with older people, and an interest in supporting people's health and wellbeing. Good organisational skills. Volunteers do not need to have any prior knowledge of lung disease. Approximately 8 hours per month. Monthly meetings last for 2 hours, preparation 4 hours, training & planning 2 hours
