1928, Antique 925 Solid Silver Swiss Pocket Watch with Chain, Tested & Working in Plymouth
1928, Antique 925 Solid Silver Swiss Pocket Watch with Chain, Tested & Working in Plymouth
You are looking at antique, Swiss made, manual, open faced silver pocket watch. Imported to the UK we believe in 1928. Belonged to my granddad but now needs a new home.
The case of the watch is made from solid, 925 silver with a glass dial window which covers a analog, 12 hour, white display and a small seconds dial. The rear case of has a circular dot pattern surrounding a central pattern in the middle. The rear of the watch case opens up to reveal the hallmarks (discussed below) and the back of the watch. This also opens up to reveal the inner workings of the watches mechanism.
We polished a section of the chain that comes with the watch with silver polish and this came out well so the chain also appears to be made silver.
The watch has been tested and it working though could probably do with a service. The Swiss manual mechanism needs to be hand wound turning the winding stem set at the top of the watch at the 12 o'clock position. Gently pulling this knob out allows you to adjust the time.
The physical condition of the watch is excellent when considering the age with a few small scratches and scuffs (please see the pictures).
Details of the watch are below.

".925" in an oval shape. Used on imported sterling silver.
The upside down Zodiac Leo Sign or Omega Shape in an oval split into quarters is the mark of the London Assay Office. Used between 1906 - 1998.
"N" We believe refers to the date which given the style of the N is 1928 we think.
"9860"
Above all of these marks is a small engraved / stamped mark that looks like either a "G" or an "E" though it could possibly be something else. It is very small and hard to identify. Assuming that this mark is a "G" or an "E", we have been unable to find what either mark would mean.
