Description:

Rare Original Vintage First Edition 1963 Hardback Book Teach Your Child About Cooking By Sally Holloway. Highly Collectable. Very Good Lightly Used Condition.

This charming nostalgic book is a snapshot in time yet remains just as relevant, informative and entertaining today.

Sally Holloway was for many years a Fleet Street and BBC News reporter who learned her cooking as a side line to assignments in kitchens as far apart as Devon and Denmark. Her three children were learning their way around the kitchen when she wrote this book, so she knew their difficulties at first hand. It is on their efforts and the experiences and achievements of two cousins that this book is based.

The author's advice is sound and her well-tried menus are delicious; many are simple enough for children to make on their own, others may need grown-up co-operation, but all are fun. With Mrs. Holloway's help children will be led to a lifetime appreciation of the creative magic of the kitchen.

This book is a 1963 first edition written by Sally Holloway, published in English by C. Arthur Pearson Ltd. of London, and printed by Cox & Wyman Ltd. This hardback portrait format book contains 95 pages with 15 drawings and 8 pages of black and white photographs. It still retains its original paper dust jacket featuring a colour photograph on the front of a mother cooking with two children.

Size approximately 13.5 cm wide by 20.5 cm high.

Although this book has been read it is in a very good clean condition and is a nice edition, having only been lightly used. There are no loose or missing pages, nor are there any rips or tears or stains to the pages. There is slight yellow discolouration on the edges of some pages - which is to be expected given its age. The text and black and white photographs are still bright and clear. There is slight foxing on the top of the text block. The spine is intact and tight.

The dust jacket shows signs of wear having been stored on a bookshelf for many years. Its corners and edges are scuffed, and there are small tears to its edges. The inside back flap has a crease running from top to bottom. The inside front flap has been cut away where the item's price was originally printed.

This is a private sale from a pet, smoke and Covid free home. This book has been in my sole possession since it was purchased by my mother and gifted to me for my birthday in 1965. She hand wrote in ink on the inside of the book's cover: "To Hilary With Love From Mommy. July 17th 1965. Happy Cooking." There are no other inscriptions or notes in the book.

Please refer to the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding condition.

I would prefer the buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. (Social Distancing will be respected.)

However, if essential, I would be willing to send this book to a location within mainland United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, at the buyer's own risk, for an additional £5.00. In this situation I would make every reasonable effort to pack the book as carefully as possible so as to help ensure its safety and would use the Royal Mail's First Class Signed For Upon Receipt Small Parcel Service. Regret no returns accepted. Thank you.
