Industrial Sewing Machinist (Full Time) required urgently in Rochdale

Midwater Luggage urgently requires an experienced, Industrial Sewing Machinist. The ideal candidate will be a skilled, industrial machinist with keen attention to detail and ability to follow both verbal and written (English Language) instructions consistently.

We would strongly prefer candidates who are currently machinists or have recently been (within the last three months), employed as a machinist in an industrial setting. (flatbed and walking foot machines). We are continuing to expand and our established customers want more product lines so we are recruiting yet another machinist.

It is essential that the candidate has worked on textile fabrics such as 600d polyesters or 1000d nylons and used machines such as a walking foot machine.

The post is for 35 hours 09:30 - 16:30 Mon - Fri

Main duties:

Reporting to the Senior Machinist you will assist in the manufacturing (sewing) of the companies products to a high standard. This is not piece-work and we place great emphasis on quality work over fast work. We require our machinists to work with care and attention and reflect this in their work.

From Heavy Duty Sewing to soft furnishings (industrial walking foot machines and flatbeds etc.) An interesting and varied workday.

Working to a tight production schedule.

Following verbal and written (English) instructions correctly

Previous experience of heavy-duty sewing is essential

Used to some moderate lifting (3kg for example)

You will be given ongoing training and instruction to enable you to work on a number of Midwater products. A probationary period of 16 weeks will be required during which you will receive £8.75p per hour rising to £9.25p per hour following the completion of the probationary period. Midwater manufactures a wide range of products so you will be required to work with fabrics such as polyester fleece and 600d coated nylon and polyesters etc.

This position is available with an immediate start. Candidates will be required to attend an informal interview which will require a practical demonstration of their machining skills (skills test). This will be done in line with social distancing covid-19 advice

COVID-19 considerations:
Our workplace was socially distanced before COVID-19. Sewing Machines are not close together and we have adequate kitchen and handwashing facilities. The buildings cleaners sanitise the workplace and we do not allow visitors into our secure unit.
