Are you an experienced Support Worker who enjoys outdoor sports? Are you motivated, committed, energetic and able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative in order to make a difference to this young man's life?
Providing support, in conjunction with a therapy programme, your dedication, enthusiasm and caring attitude coupled with a lively, happy and outgoing personality is required to work with a partially independent young man who is visually impaired and has walking difficulties, although independently mobile. The successful candidate will work closely with our client, his family, therapy team and case manager.
An active 20 year old young man with many interests, our client particularly enjoys outdoor pursuits including rock climbing, hiking, scrambling and skiing. He also embraces community activities including regular gym sessions and is involved with local scout and cub groups where he is a leader, attending twice a week.
You will work with our client in his home, in the local community and provide support with activity holidays which will involve working weekends and some late evenings. A sociable, lively, adaptable and practical approach will ensure that you are involved whilst having regard for our client's safety and welfare and present a positive role model. A further requirement will be to support him with domestic duties, cooking, money management and time management.
The successful applicant will have experience of working as a support worker to young adults. It is essential to have excellent communication, social and planning skills with the ability to carry out risk assessments prior to activities being undertaken. You should be confident in the use of IT equipment and have a good understanding of confidentiality, respect and privacy. You will be working within a private home and should be sensitive to the needs and wishes of the family, be reliable and trustworthy, well organised and punctual. An ability to maintain a supportive, caring relationship whilst retaining professional boundaries will be key.
It is anticipated that the favoured candidate will have an interest and confidence in water and outdoor pursuits; a confident skier is preferred. A current, clean, full UK driving licence is a requirement for this position.
