Pianos need regular tuning to keep them sounding nice. There's no hard and fast rules but once a year is a good timescale. The longer it's left, the more work needs doing to get the piano back to pitch and sounding good -- which is more costly.

With thousands of moving parts, pianos can soon develop oddities: sticking keys, notes that don't sound properly, annoying clacking and buzzing noises from within. And if you're a regular pianist you may notice your piano's tone getting harsher over time, or the keys becoming stiffer (or looser) than you like. Like our own bodies, pianos can suffer from age, neglect and lifestyle problems (moths adore pianos and can wreak silent havoc in the dark interior).
