Description:
This was likely built during the early 1900's by the prestigious instrument makers 'F. DARTON & CO'. based in London - Serial Number: 7229. This mechanical device is designed to record temperature over a seven day period.
It consists of a wind-up mechanical rotating wine-up drum holding a temperature chart, plus a bi-metal mechanism sensitive to temperature changes, although I cannot yet see how one winds it up!. A stainless steel arm with an ink nib (pen) which then scribes the fluctuating temperature readings on the rotating chart. I think that the ink and correct chart papers are still available on Ebay.
The copper and brass hinged case measures 10" wide x 5" deep x 6" tall and is attached to a cast iron base, which has all the components attached.
It's finished in good original 'gold' paint, but if this coating was removed then the copper casing should polish beautifully (if non-original !)
A genuine decorative antique for not much money!
Carefully packed via Courier would be £8. (or Collect West Norfolk))
