Ancient Medieval Cast Iron Spear Head With Socket. 300-400ad.
For sale:
A lovely large ancient medieval looking spear head with socket the spear head is possibly Roman 300-400ad & was found on top of a very large hill near Glastonbury the spear is quite corroded & most likely cast iron possibly dating back to Roman Britton. At first the artifact was hard to identify but it is clear that it has a socket at the base for a pole or wooden shaft.
The edges of the head are quite sharp on one side & the other unfortunately shows signs corrosion due to age. The artifact is museum quality & was found metal detecting on the Mendip. The spear head is a total of 35.6cm (14 1/2"). long & 4&1/2cm wide at the wisest point.
The tip of the spear is 2cm wide & the base is 1.8cm wide. A perfect spherical cylinder can be seen where the attachment was made
The item weights approximately 281g.
The artifact would make a lovely addition to any antiques collection or museum collectors pieces a wonderful piece of history.
