Dating from 1251, this is the fourth-oldest pub in Britain and is reputedly haunted by the Seventh Earl of Derby, James Stanley. The royalist, whose family originally owned the inn, is said to have spent the last hours of his life there before he was beheaded in 1651 towards the end of the Civil War. The chair he sat in before he was taken outside and executed is still in the pub today - and some say so is he. Hundreds of soldiers and civilians were also killed outside the pub in the Bolton Massacre of 1644. With such a bloody history, it's no wonder it's become known as a hotspot for paranormal activity and believed to be haunted by at least 25 spirits. Among them is said to be a woman who hung herself in the cellar several centuries ago as well as an eight-year-old girl and a phantom dog.

Guests will have the opportunity to use the ghost equipment.

Tickets are £26.50 per person and includes a Carrs Pastie Supper, book now with a £10.00 per person deposit and pay remaining balance 2 weeks before the event ( only 30 places on each event).

One night the manger discovered the spectre after heading downstairs on Friday morning and stumbling upon a broken glass lying on the floor.

Thinking he had been burgled, he rushed to check CCTV footage - only to discover the figure flickering mysteriously by the bar.

8pm until 1am.

Over view of the evening - light snack on arrival, guests will be able to purchase their own drinks from the bar , demostration of the equipment, split into groups and use of the equipment (ouija boards, K2 meters, seances and various other equipment). Once the pub is closed to the public at 11pm, we will have access to the upper floors, bar areas, court at the rear of the pub and the building that adjoins at the back until 1am.
