Description:

I have a 1995, Hymer 694 (M reg) around 160K km with the 8140.47 Fiat / Iveco engine (112Hp), 2.5TD, that I'm thinking of selling. Just come back from two epic trips, one to Cromarty Firth (around 900 miles) and one to Naples (around 3500 miles) and Baden-Baden. I went to Nigg, north of Inverness to get the twin axles of the motorhome completely overhauled by Fraser Brown Engineering. The axles are now in better condition than when Alko first built them. They cost over £3500 to get done, but now will last another twenty + years, especially as I have now a remote greasing option fitted (no more crawling underneath the van like your compatriots).

I have spent the last 2+ years renovating this motorhome. It works purely from solar, with four panels giving a maximum 1.1kW of power. Search my threads for how to boil an electric kettle via solar!

The spending list is as follows:

Dometic B1600 Plus Air Con - £1500 (with spare remote)
Four Varta H3 batteries - £400
Four x EP Tracer Solar regulators - £450
Four x 275W panels and galvanised mounts - £800
Sterling PRO COMBI Q 1600W inverter / charger - £750
Cotek SK2000 Pure Sine Wave inverter - £600
Fiamma Turbo Vent - £150
Gas It tank and fittings with barbecue point - £350
Gas cooker - £250
Fridge -£100
Truma Combi 6 - £1250
Alko Axle refurb including remote greasing option- £3500
New Michelin fronts - £200
4 x new tyres rear (2016) - £200
New front cross-member - £250
New engine mounts - £250
New cambelt (2016 /148K Km) - £500
New Thule two-Tier electric step - £400
Relay for automatic retraction of step on ignition - £75
New black tank and macerator -£500
New Thetford Aqua Marine Toilet - £200
New shower room - £500
New plumbing for heating ducts / pipes etc -£200
New dash and carpets -£250
Wi-fi aerial and booster -£100
Security cameras and 24 hour recorder -£150
Tracker and 2 year membership -£150
Security gate for garage with four hidden shackle deadlocks - £200
Safe in garage bolted through chassis - £50

As you can see, all that lot adds up to over £13000.

Added to the purchase price I paid for the van, I'm probably in for around £25K.

You can probably buy the same van if you're lucky for just over half that price....but it will have all the problems my van had. As I said, it's just done around 5000 miles in the last six months and all without a hitch precisely because all the work has been done. It's obviously on a galvanised chassis so is in better nick than most vans half its age.
