VW California SE (Genuine factory manufactured from new) 2.0 TDI 140 BHP Camper in Natural Grey Metallic

Volkswagen's full official in-house factory conversion camper/day-van/mobile office - not an aftermarket conversion

This is a late (December) 2010 '60' plate (T5.1 'facelift') model with a full service history and in excellent overall condition - it has had one owner from new until we purchased and is absolutely ready to go.

We have just returned from a 2500 mile Summer trip through France, Spain and the Basque Country and it has been a joy to drive and behaved impeccably. The engine used zero oil on the long trip and all other fluids were exactly at the same level at the end of the trip as at the beginning.

The drivetrain is the 140 hp option with 6 speed manual gearbox giving excellent fuel economy with more than enough power for high motorway speeds and brisk driving. The 140 hp engine is a simpler, cheaper to run and a much more reliable engine than the 180 twin turbo with the widely documented premature bore wear issues that has required replacement engines in many of the 180 hp models. The 140 hp has 340 NM of torque (only 60 less than the 180 hp) and pulls like a train to very high speeds if required or it will happily potter about super smoothly if driven lazily. It has low road tax too at just £255 for 12 months. Overall fuel consumption for our trip with a mixture of motorway, mountain passes, main roads and town use was 35mpg.

It has a fantastic history file and comes with a large folder of paperwork to include MOTs, service documents, numerous invoices, etc. Current mileage is just 72,000. The cam belt/tensioner was renewed in 2015. New tyres (a full set of Michelin Agilis 215/65 R16's) were fitted all round in 2018 and remain in superb condition with little wear. All four alloys are also in excellent condition with no kerbing. The MOT is valid until January 2020. The only advisories for it's entire MOT history are from the last two years showing some corrosion to the rear exhaust and wear to brake discs. Following these a new exhaust was fitted in July this year (2019) and the brake disc/pads renewed in March this year (2019).

This particular model has many extras including metallic 'Natural Grey' paint, factory privacy glass, the factory awning, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, remote control diesel heating, the fitted safe, factory tow ball (NEVER used for towing only to fit a bike rack), heated seats, electric folding mirrors etc. The seats have had covers from new and are therefore very clean and unworn. The paint was G3 professionally protected from new and is still in fantastic condition - all paint and panels appear original, the headlights had the optional protectors fitted from new too.

Potential owners will be aware of the 'California roof corrosion' issue that affects many Cali's after a few years - this one has been recalled and fully professionally repaired under the official VW process around 18 months ago via one of the four official approved VW bodywork centers and consequently shows none of the usual issues.

If you are familiar with the VW factory California then you will know that no other VW based camper comes close for quality, design and true 'factory' finish. The standard equipment list includes a compressor fridge/freezer, programmable diesel run internal heater independant of engine, electric/hydraulic rising pop top roof, kitchen unit with sink, custom bowl and tap. Large storage cupboard, inside and outside tables cleverly stored, outside seats stored in the rear tailgate, large wardrobe and rear shelved cupboard, hidden blinds to all windows, 30 litre fresh and waste water tanks, a huge slatted bed in the roof, a double bed 'downstairs', twin swivel captains chairs with armrests, air conditioning, with separate controls for rear passengers, twin side opening rear windows, electric windows, courtesy lights in all foot wells, numerous indoor lights and 12v sockets, 240 mains hook up with RCCD and interior socket, a 240v inverter, automatic battery charging, twin leisure batteries, soft close tailgate/side door etc, etc. It has the full size factory spare wheel which appears unused.

One of the very best features of the California that is not found on any other conversion is the VW sliding seat system. Superbly engineered and completely integrated with seatbelts this can be locked in any position so passengers can ride up front as close as a regular car leaving an enormous load area or it can be pushed right back for lots of space in the camping mode. The seat base itself includes a massive slide out storage drawer. If required extra seats can be fitted to the rails for more passenger carrying.

Overall, the vehicle is very tidy and the exterior and interior have been very well cared for. When polished the metallic dark grey paintwork looks superb and the camper always attracts attention and favourable comments - any inspection is welcome. All the pictures were taken this week (5th Sep 2019). The very latest Calis' are virtually identical inside with all the same fittings just the same bar minor trim changes - in short this very well looked after 2010 model will do everything the latest £60k+ Calis will and it is fully ready to go. The sale includes both keys (also water cap and safe keys) with remote control for the diesel heater, original first aid kit, full tool/jack kit with security key for alloy wheel nuts, full owner manuals, fully stamped VW service book with a folder of paperwork, current and past MOT certificates and the V5.

The vehicle has been valeted top to bottom, inside out and is totally ready to go.
