Mickey and Bella

Pair of adorable RESCUE dogs seeking experienced and gentle owner. in Helston

This wonderful pair have come all the way from Romania looking for a loving forever home.

These two really are an absolute joy to have around, and will prosper and be highly rewarding in the right environment.

They're calm, gentle, playful and full of character, but Mickey has had a very hard life and a lot of trauma, so needs a patient owner when out (please see below for more details).

Bella (golden, approx 3-4yrs) loves cuddles and will quietly rest her head on you for comfort. She likes to know where you are but isn't needy at all. She enjoys a good run, a long walk, or just exploring the smells of the garden. No problems with temperament.

Mickey (brown and white, approx 9yrs) loves to chase a ball, enjoys a walk, or to just stretch out and relax in the sun. He's very loving and likes nothing more than to have his back, head and belly rubbed while he wriggles around and asks you for more.

Both get on well with our other dogs here, but Mickey can be very wary of unfamiliar dogs when out, and may snap at them if they get too close. Likewise, he is nervous of people he doesn't know and has been known to snap if they are on his territory, but no issues with people coming into the house so long as they are accompanied by someone he trusts.
He is particularly scared of people with canes/sticks or anything that looks like one. Again, this will be due to trauma.

With that said, Mickey is highly intelligent and is responding well to positive reward training. He benefits from quiet, gentle reassurance when out, and this works particularly well if you are observant of his surroundings and can preempt any nerves, and counter these with a gentle 'shhh' and a pat on the back. When done correctly he will walk past most dogs - except black ones - and people without a problem, with continued reassurance. This has been improving over time.

When walking around the farm he will walk off-lead and will walk to heel. He's extremely loyal and looks to the owner for direction and reassurance, so there is potential for further training here but it's important to respect the fact that he has likely been beaten in the past, so a gentler approach is needed.

For these reasons we are looking for a quiet home with no other dogs, with an experienced owner and someone at home during the day, and a large garden or enclosed fields where they can play off-lead without feeling under threat.

Both have been off-lead on deserted semi-enclosed beaches, but recall is an issue if they get distracted.

At home, both are undemanding and well house-trained, respond well to verbal commands, no problems with cats, no begging for food etc. Mickey will tell you quietly when he wants to go out. Bella likes to sleep in the bedroom sometimes when she's feeling lonely or insecure, but never attempts to get on the bed.

Both have had the relevant shots and treatments, eat a healthy unprocessed diet and have recent vet checkups.

£400 to cover costs of rehoming and to ensure a caring and committed owner.

Subject to a home check.

May consider homing separately in the right environment, but Mickey would be the priority here and the home would have to be perfect for him if we are to separate them.

If you think you can help these two beautiful animals, please get in touch with details of what you can offer them. Happy to talk more on the phone and we can arrange for you to come to visit them anytime.

Thanks for your interest.
