These charming nostalgic books are evocative of a bygone era yet remain just as relevant, informative and entertaining today.

These highly collectable books are vintage originals, not more modern facsimiles - which are more frequently available.

The two delightful books being offered for sale here as one lot are:

What To Look For In Summer - A Ladybird Nature Book: First edition published in 1960. In summer, when the days are warmer and the sunrises early and sets late, there are many, many things in the country to discover, appreciate, and sometimes to collect. In this book C. F. Tunnicliffe, R. A. has beautifully illustrated in colour some of the things you can look for, and with its help you will find the pleasure of a day - or night - in the country is greatly increased. Series 536. 51 pages, plus an index to the illustrations and text, printed in English by Wills & Hepworth Ltd., Loughborough. Author E. L. Grant Watson. Full colour full page Illustrations throughout by C. F. Tunnicliffe, R.A. Hardback portrait format book with original illustrated paper dust jacket.

Animals, Birds And Plants Of The Bible - A Ladybird Book: First edition published in 1964. The Bible has many references to animals, birds, trees and flowers, and this fascinating book illustrates in full colour those most frequently mentioned. It also describes the part they played in the lives of the people of the Old and New Testaments. Series 649. 51 pages, printed in English by Wills & Hepworth Ltd., Loughborough. Author Hilda I. Rostron. Full colour full page Illustrations throughout by Clive Uptton. Hardback portrait format book, published without a dust jacket. End papers printed with maps of the Lands Of The Bible. Printed price inside of 2/6 net.

The size of each of book is approximately 12.0 cm wide by 18.0 cm high.

Although these books have been read they are in an very good clean condition and are nice editions, having only been lightly used. There are no loose or missing pages, nor are there any rips or tears or stains to the pages. Neither is there any yellow discolouration on the pages - which one normally sees on books of this age; the text and coloured illustrations are still bright and clear. The spines are intact and tight.

This is a private sale from a pet, smoke and Covid free home. These books have been in my sole possession since they were originally purchased new by the Headmistress of the Infants / Junior school which I attended and presented to me at the school's harvest festivals in 1965 and 1966.

On the inside of the nature book's cover the Headmistress hand wrote in ink: "Coughton School, Harvest Festival 1965 Hilary Chapman". On the inside of the other book she wrote: "Hilary Chapman Harvest Festival 1966 Coughton School". There are no other inscriptions or notes in either book. On the rear of the dust jacket for the nature book has been hand written "Coughton School 1965".

(Coughton School in Warwickshire was originally for the children of estate workers at nearby Coughton Court, between Studley and Alcester, which is a Grade I listed Tudor country house owned by the Throckmorton family since 1409 before more recently becoming a National Trust property.)

Please refer to the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the overall condition of this lot.

I would prefer the buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. (Social Distancing will be respected.)

However, if essential, I would be willing to send these books to a location within mainland United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, at the buyer's own risk, for an additional £6.00. In this situation I would make every reasonable effort to pack the books as carefully as possible so as to help ensure their safety and would use the Royal Mail's First Class Signed For Upon Receipt Small Parcel Service. Regret no returns accepted. Thank you.
