Welcome to Harber's Equine Training
At Harber's Equine Training, we provide experienced mobile horse training, travelling to you at your convenience. We specialise in young horse backing, groundwork, and behaviour management for medically sound horses.
With over 14 years of practical training, riding, and horsemanship experience, we use calm, effective, and horse-centred methods tailored to each individual horse.

What We Offer
Young Horse Backing Programme
£100 per session (2-hour session)
Typically 4-6 sessions, depending on the horse's individual learning ability and needs.
Each session builds progressively and may include:
Handling and ground manners
Desensitisation
Bitting and reining
Groundwork
Saddling
Weight-bearing
Early light ridden work
Progress is always guided by the horse's readiness, temperament, and welfare, with each stage introduced only when the horse is ready to move forward.
Basic Starters Programme
Designed for horses starting completely from scratch.
This programme focuses on:
Getting to know the horse
Introducing the halter and lead rope
Lead-rein training
General handling and confidence-building
Desensitisation
Ideal for young or unhandled horses that are not yet lead-rein broken, preparing them calmly and correctly for future backing.
Behaviour Management Programme
Aimed at addressing and reshaping unwanted behaviours in medically evaluated, physically sound horses only.
Training is always carried out with welfare and fairness as the priority.
Common Behavioural Issues May Include:
Handling & Groundwork
Difficulty being caught
Pulling away or barging on the lead
Poor ground manners
Biting or nipping
Rearing or striking when handled
Kicking during handling, grooming, or tacking
Refusal to stand quietly
Head-shy, ear-shy, or equipment-shy behaviour
Defensive or anxious responses
Tacking & Mounting
Resistance to grooming or tacking up
Girthiness
Moving off or refusing to stand to mount
Fidgeting, spinning, or backing away
Ridden Behaviour (medically sound horses)
Bucking or kicking out
Rearing under saddle
Spooking or napping
Bolting or rushing
Refusal to go forward
Resistance to aids
Difficulty steering or stopping
Confidence & Exposure Issues
Fear of traffic, noises, or new environments
Whip-shy or bit-shy behaviour
